Description
My partner and I have been homesteading for 3+ years and are looking to get into market farming. We grow row crops of cut flowers and vegetables crops and have a large poultry flock. We currently farm our yard seasonally part time (approx 100ftx75ft garden space) but are ready to take farming on as a full time venture. I have obtained a Whole Farm Management Certificate from Oregon State University and am taking a lot of hands on continuing educational steps. We are open to partnerships that will lead to transfer of sale/business especially if owner is willing to help teach us how to market up. We would love to get into dairy but have no prior experience or background with it. We currently sell eggs and some produce out of a small seasonal portable farm stand in our front yard and am looking at posting our eggs on Farmish. Currently most of our eggs are sold through word of mouth. We grow microgreens indoors year round and seasonal greens, veggies, cut flowers, herbs, and perennial flowers/fruit bushes. We currently live in a family rental with limited yard/garden space (1/2 acre total yard) and have out grown our space. Ideally we would like something 3+ acres so that we can incorporate livestock and have appropriate space for animals and row crops. We would love to either build cold frames and a greenhouse or have that infrastructure already in place. We are open to land that we can start fresh on or taking over a venture that is already established or in process. We currently live in Burlington, CT along the Farmington River and love the area so would prefer to stay in the Farmington, Avon, Simsbury, New Hartford, Canton, Burlington, Barkhamstead corridor but are open to all of CT. Close proximity to water is preferred but not necessary. We are young hard workers ready to make our move into farming and bring it back to our previous family roots. My partner has experience working on a 50+ acre farm (Cold Spring Brook Farm in Rocky Hill) and we have obtained a lot of background from gardening over the last 10+ years. Our plants and poultry are raised 100% organic and all natural. We would like to grow enough to offer CSA's, participate in farmers market/fairs and operate an onsite farm store. We are looking to "grow" :) into the space and make it ours, with our end goals being able to 100% support ourselves and the local community by offering fresh locally grown all natural fruits, veggies and poultry and to make an impactful difference to our local food community.
