Description
Looking for land (ideally with a house too) to start a small cut flower and fruit growing operation.
We only need a small cleared area to begin. However, a larger parcel with room for future expansion is desirable.
We (Ian and Callie) are in our mid-thirties and have two kids (6 and 8 years old). We moved to Preston, CT from rural NY about ten years ago. Currently we only have a large home-garden that is used for personal production and is out of room to plant more. We have apple saplings that we have grafted that need to be planted permanently as well as other perennial fruit and flowers that need transplanting.
Ian is employed full time and would continue with that in the near term. Callie (and the kids) would manage the farm business. The intent is to start at a small scale and use what we currently have, but reinvest all of the farm proceeds back into the operation to expand without utilizing debt.
We also think that it is important to consider a farm as more than just a business and that it should be an asset to the surrounding community. We want to utilize land in a sustainable way and ensure that it is preserved for future generations.
If a habitable house is available on the property a standard sale of up to 600k is possible. If raw land (with a building site) is available close to where we currently live a standard sale in the 200k range is possible. We are also open to any alternate possibility other than a standard sale leading to permanent usage/ownership.
