Main Interest: Regenerative, sustainable, management intensive livestock operation; cattle, broilers, sheep, goats and pigs.
Other Interests: Mycology, gourmet and medicinal mushrooms.
I am looking for land for long term lease or owner financed sale to establish a management intensive livestock operation. I have been studying regenerative livestock management and the methods of farmers like Joel Salatin, Gabe Brown, Greg Judy, Alan Savory, and more, whose methods I will be replicating and building upon.
I will be using mostly portable solar powered electric fencing infrastructure to create small 1/4 to 1/2 acre paddocks and the livestock will move to a fresh new paddock every day. About 4-5 days after the ruminants leave a paddock, chickens will be introduced into that paddock where they will scratch up the manure, eat the insect larvae, and deposit their own nitrogen rich manure on the soil. Ideally, the livestock will only spend one to two days per year in any given paddock.
I will also seed different perennial forage and cover crops. These methods have been proven to increase forage production per acre dramatically. In one instance, they went from under 2,000lbs of forage per acre to 10,000lbs per acre.
As the forage density increases, the livestock stocking density increases as the land can provide forage for more animals.
I have some capital for infrastructure, animals, and lease or finance payments.
