Looking to start a hydroponic farm on a small scale and build from there. I have a business plan well in the works and am at the point of starting to contact land trusts to see about leasing land to build a small greenhouse on. I am trying to start somewhat small with a lower capital investment which I can then reinvest the profits into to grow larger over time. I don’t have much money to invest but I do take any money I have saved to invest in this. I’m really passionate about it and truly believe I can make this work.
I have a 20+ year background in IT and administrative management with a love of plants and growing things from my father. Growing up we had a large garden and in my current house I have had multiple gardens. Now I want something larger, productive, hopefully profitable, and something to better my community and my neighbors. Its something I wish I did years ago and I’m going to do my best to make it happen now.
I have been growing hydroponically for the past year with lettuce, spinach, and herbs. This spring and summer I am growing tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers on a small scale. I have also been working with the hydroponic system manufacturer, attending their grower workshops, and taking food safety courses in anticipation of starting a farm. The food I currently grow is given away to my local community and the response has been overwhelmingly positive for the quality and taste of my products.
I am reaching out through CT Farm Link to see if I can find someone with an unused greenhouse that I can lease or otherwise use to start growing in. I am happy to work on an active or inactive farm and I’m open to different arrangements and ideas. I just need space to start so I can grow this passion of mine into something more.
