I am looking for a couple acres to start a small flower and veggies farm. I want to focus on offering a seasonal CSA, selling directly to florists, and hopefully a farm stand. My long term vision includes more agritourism-- pick-your-own offerings, an outdoor area for customers to enjoy, and a larger farm store with food and beverage-- I want to create a space people want to come and hang out, rather than make a quick stop. However, my primary focus in the beginning is just to successfully grow enough flowers and veg to fulfill the CSA and sell to florists throughout the season. I'd like to have an offering for each season-- early spring flowers, summer flowers and veg, fall boutique pumpkins, winterberry and wreaths for the winter.
I've been living in Kona, Hawaii the last few years where I've been growing and selling flowers, but recently had to move and give up all my garden beds. I've been wanting to move back to New England so I can start the dream farm that I've been planning (and writing up a business plan for!), so my goal is to move the end of 2023 and secure a plot of land to lease to start growing for the 2024 season.
Prior to living here in Hawaii, I worked at Eddy Farm in Newington, CT (flower farm), where I absolutely fell in love with flower production and learned a lot about farm organization and efficiency. I'm ready to put in the work and contribute more local food and flowers to my community.
