Hello, My name is Tim Chase and I'm looking to transition from Engineering to Farming.
Background:
I'm a Navy veteran and have been working in Aerospace Engineering for 20 years. Most of this time I have resided in Enfield CT where I have gained a strong passion for gardening. In the past few years I have worked a .5 acre parcel of land which I used for large gardens, compost, and Chicken coops. By Summer 2024, my goal is to own or Lease fertile land with the intent of creating a Homestead or Small Farm. For the first few years I will be able to Work Remote in order to get established.
Currently, I am looking for available land (Ag) 5-10 Acres to purchase/Lease in the location of CT/ MA and NY with a preference on proximity to my hometown. My Business plan is Focused on Grant Aquisition and less geared towards CSA and Farm to market. Since I am a war veteran (OIF) who has found gardening to be sort of a therapy, I plan to create a Veteran Outreach program. This program will provide fun activities to Disabled and Disadvantaged Vets. Activities: Hands-On Farming, Horse Riding, Snowmobiling, ATV riding, Vet-to-table Hand out Donations to local community. Based on these Various activities, Veterans can get a sense if Farming is for them and in either case come away relaxed, reset and with a better understanding of Farming.
It is important to me to leverage all sources of income when relating to land ownership. Searching for Passive income streams is crucial to avoiding the typical Dairy and Veg Farm. Depending on location I'm open to Solar agreements, Creating AirBnB Barn experience, Pick your own Fruit patch, Roadside Farm Stand, and establishing a youtube channel as a supplement to Grants and Value Added products.
Also, I'm Interested in possible collaborations with like-minded folks who just want to be in the Sun and soil all day. A very friendly person and open to other types of agreements other than a straight land sale. Please reach out if you are interested in working together. Thanks for your time!
